Company Overview
Seven Lights, LLC (7L) produces customizable online entertainment that combines the best-of-breed game elements from RPGs, strategy games, collectibles, and other genres with gameplay styles and business models tailored to the individual player. Founded in 2003, the company is based in Chicago, IL, and is on the web at www.sevenlights.com
The Company
Recognizing that the rapidly expanding online game and virtual economy market was providing the opportunity to create unique models, the founders of Seven Lights -- Tim Harris, Mike McCarthy and Dave Shuck – struck out to fill the gap they found in online entertainment. The Seven Lights team created a development/publishing company that unites players’ favorite elements of collectibles, RPG, strategic gameplay, customization, character development, and virtual economies into a series of PC and console game products. The company will also keep a close eye on analog, digital and mobile entertainment to add new experiences that take advantage of trends in entertainment consumption.
The trio founded the company using their experience in marketing, game development and operations, among others. Two of the founders, Tim and Mike, have history in creating immersive entertainment in their positions as co-founders of Publicis-owned Play, the first marketing agency dedicated to helping marketers leverage the power of interactive games. A wholly owned subsidiary of Publicis Groupe, Play’s clients include General Motors, Proctor & Gamble, Allstate, Miller Brewing and Red Bull. Third partner, Dave, brings over 10 years of operational and marketing expertise turning small businesses into large businesses in the public sector
Seven Lights plans to support its games by delivering online and offline narrative and gameplay progressions. Online will include deep community-based web experiences and offline will include comic books, books, and videos.
The Games
The first of Seven Light’s projects, The Continuum, is an online collectible war game with a fantasy setting. In this ever-expanding world of evolving land and inhabitants, players build armies through battles, character abilities, counterattacks, power-ups, relic and equipment discovery. The Continuum will serve as the base model for an entire series of games, ranging in topics from science fiction to historical war to popular licenses from other intellectual properties.
Seven Lights games appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers, as the games will be completely scalable to the player and will allow players to explore their favorite parts of entertainment in a personalized arena. Players control the game’s fate through their in-game performance, which also directs the storyline and new character sets. Players direct the growth of their characters, as well as the evolution of their set of characters through trade, purchase and gameplay experiences. If a player wants to build their army without going into battle, or having to trade with another user, they can purchase additional virtual “packs” containing a number of randomly assorted characters whose rarity ranges from common to unique. The company will issue a constant stream of expansion sets and content, introducing new ways to play with all-new characters, abilities and attributes
