Are the Spewgies the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry?
Hell no!
The Spewgies are Spewgilist.com's acknowledgement of great efforts in the gaming and entertainment industry. The categories, subject to change, whim, and inclement weather are:
- Best Event
- Best Game of the Year
- Best CCG or CCG Update
- Best non-CCG Card Game
- Best Board Game
- Best RPG or RPG Expansion
- Best Miniatures Game or Miniatures Expansion
- Best Family Game or Family Game Expansion
- Best Geek Music
- Best Web Series (regularly scheduled video series)
- Best Geek Short (30 minutes or less video)
- Best Geek Film (feature length)
- Best Web Comic
- Best Web Cast (Regularly scheduled video feed)
- Best Geek Culture Company
And the Criteria are:
- Submissions accepted from January 1 through December 31 of the calendar year
- Results Announced First Monday in February
- Results will be compiled from all items we have reviewed or events we have attended in the stated time-frame
- Selections are not limited to items released in a calendar year. If we get around to reviewing an item that is 10 years old, it's eligible so if we've not reviewed your great product, now's the time to send it to us.
- Updates to a game are the same as a new game to us. It's because we don't like to work hard.
Does this mean the Spewgies are just a cynical attempt to appeal to companies and have them send us free things? No, it's also an attempt to have readers get more value from more reviews and put the Spewgilist.com name all over the place as winners feature our award in their advertising material.
But, at the heart, the Spewgies exist to highlight great things we see over the year. Just as it is our opinion that most game reviews are, at best, horrid, we've found a great deal of the awards given out to have little value for the consumer. Hell, E3 gave Doom 3 five (5) awards in 2002 based on a 15 minute game demo video. Doom 3 sucked. I couldn't even bring myself to get wordy, it was that disappointing, and yet, it won a lot of awards.
Do you have a game you'd like us to review? Hell, do you have a game you love and want to put it up for a review? Send us a recap and we'll post it. Are you a company that wants your product considered? Send a note to EDITORS@SPEWGILIST.COM. We'll do our best to get it included in the mix.
