While at Wizard's World We had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with the folks from NeenerNeener.net. I've known Shawn Williams, Kwip, for quite a few years now and remember the day he registered NeenerNeener.net. I'd like to report I saw the light of the Internet glow throughout the room and knew, at that moment, that NeenerNeener.net was destined to place it's footprint on the web and provide information and amusement to millions.
I'd like to say that but, at that time, all I thought was "What an odd name, glad I'm not paying for it."
Yeah, obviously I missed that one.
Kwip and the NeenerNeener.net crew were just finishing a lunch break as we walked up, and asked if they minded if we shared their table. Hmmmm. The question is, of course, were they really finishing up or did our presence convince them that being somewhere else was more desirable. I do have that affect on people, after all. I'm going with they were finishing up, Kwip or others can correct me on it if they find it's worth their time. In favor of my take on things, Kwip did recognize me and that, sadly, was their undoing. After all, once he admitted he knew me, what chance did he have to slink away without a backward glance? None, of course.
Even though they obviously wanted to get away from us, we monopolized some of their time while I reminisced about the time, long ago, when Kwip and I worked on a project. This project would go on to fail brilliantly and expensively. Not Kwip's fault, obviously, and, surprisingly, not mine either. I know, that's hard to believe, but you can trust me on this. OK, you can ask Kwip about it, but what would he know?
NeenerNeener.net continues as a solid and informative community. They have quite a few talented individuals in a number of areas and not a small amount of dedicated supporters. Was that vague enough? Did that sound like I was piecing this together from a 30 second conversation and tying to flesh it out into a real article? Thanks, it's a gift.
Aside from incredibly funny recaps and interactions, close your office door at work type of funny, the crew at neenerneener.net does a lot of work for MS. They raise cash and awareness for MS, which is a truly worthy thing to do. They get their folks out for events, they get others out for events, they keep up the volume on the dialogue. It's a personal thing with Kwip and he's motivated the folks around him to help out.
Along with the blog and articles and comics on their site, they do a show by the name of N3RDCast. I'm much too important to listen to such things (read: Pugilist is a lame ass old man and has not embraced the podcasting movement because, well, he's a lame ass old man) but I found time in my important and highly valuable schedule to download their latest show and take a listen.
I hated it. It's funny, it's witty, it's informative. They discuss all the aspects of comics, writing, art, story arcs, character development, blah, blah, blah, blah, BLAH! Shit, like I need that kind of competition.
Another thing, I am quite pissed that Kwip has a better PDA than I do. He's rocking with the HP2495 with 256 MB, wireless b, and both SD and CF slot while I'm using my 3800 series with a broken speaker that I got off of e-bay after my 3700 series was stolen out of my car, along with my briefcase, laptop, checkbook, daytimer, digital camera, etc., etc., etc. But that's another story.
So, he's hipper, has better gear, his hair is not grey, and you wonder why I hate him so?
In a good way, of course.
Check out NeenerNeener.net - funny folks and working for a worthy cause. It's good to see the mixture and the content on their site is well worth your time. Remember though, CLOSE THE DOOR if you are at work, especially when reading the Ninja story. I was fake coughing up a storm and there is no way I am supposed to smile that much - outside of Vegas, of course.
